Legal Separation - Legal separation maintains a marriage but in name alone. Many clients choose legal separation for religious reasons or to keep a spouse on their health insurance plan.

Nullity - An annulment is a declaration that a marriage never existed. Annulments are filed when there is fraud or one of the spouses is mentally incompetent.

Paternity - Fathers looking to establish paternity are usually interested in spending time with their child but may have been denied that opportunity. Mothers may seek a paternity test to prove the biological link to the father and secure financial support.

Domestic Partnerships - Registering as domestic partners provides you many of the same rights that married couples have. We assist individuals seeking domestic partnerships and those who are dissolving the relationship.

Child Custody / Visitation – Courts determine child custody issues based on the best interests of the child. In many cases, mediation is required prior to any litigation. The court offers other options such as mandatory counseling and parenting and anger management classes.

Child and Spousal Support – California has a statutory formula for determining child support based on net income, time spent with the children, and expenses. Spousal support does not have a strict formula. We represent clients on both sides of these sometimes-contentious issues.

Restraining Orders - Our firm assists clients with various domestic violence issues. That includes filing restraining orders against an abusive spouse. While domestic violence is a serious matter, sometimes accusations are unfounded and only used as leverage in a divorce. In those situations, we defend clients accused of domestic violence.

Guardianships - When the biological parents are unable to care for their child, grandparents and other interested parties sometimes step in to assume responsibility for the child. These matters are handled in probate court.
